Italy Wheelchair Accessible Small Group Tour Itinerary
May 15, 2025: Arrive
Arrive in Venice and meet your fellow travelers at the airport for an accessible transfer to Verona (approximately 1 1/2 hours). Spend the rest of the day relaxing from your flight.
May 16, 2025: Verona City Tour
We will start off the day with an optional cooking class and enjoy a tasty lunch of tortellini and an almond tarte. Afterward, we will have a guided city tour visiting the famous Juliet’s Balcony (from Romeo and Juliet) and the amphitheater amongst other important sights.
May 17, 2025: Lake Garda
Today we venture from Verona to Lake Garda for a ride on the ferry to see the lake from a different angle. Lake Garda is situated between the Alps and the Po Valley and boasts crystal-clear waters surrounded by picturesque towns, olive groves, and vineyards.
Visitors are drawn to the scenic charm of places like Sirmione, known for its medieval castle and ancient Roman ruins, and Limone sul Garda, famous for its lemon groves and vibrant, colorful buildings.
A private guide will ensure we see all the highlights and experience as much as possible during our trip.
May 18, 2025: Dolomites
Depending on hotel availability we will either do a day trip to the Dolomites from Verona or check out of the hotel and spend the night in the Castelrotto region.
Either way, it is approximately a 2-hour journey into part of the Italian Alps, the Dolomites. Once there, we will explore the area and there will be options for some accessible hikes to enjoy the scenery.
May 19, 2025: Milan
After a delicious breakfast, we leave the mountains and head for Milan. This is an approximately 2-3-hour drive. After lunch, we will make our way to see the famous Last Supper painting by Leonardo DaVinci.
An optional cooking class for dinner (pasta, gnocchi, dessert, and wine included) is available in the evening.
May 20, 2025: Lake Como
Using adapted transport, we will travel from Milan to Lake Como for a day of gorgeous lake views. Using the ferry, we will explore the lake and sail by grand mansions where celebrities often vacation.
During our day trip, we will stop and admire the town of Bellagio. Once in town, we will visit Basilica di San Giacomo and Chiesa di San Giorgio, two must-see churches. A private guide will help us make the most out of this trip.
May 21, 2025: Milan
On our last full day in Italy, we will explore the vibrant city of Milan and visit its iconic cathedral (the largest church in Italy). Other sights visited on this tour include Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a covered and famous shopping area, and La Scala, an Opera Theater.
May 22, 2025 Depart
It will be hard to leave, but it’s time to say Ciao! An accessible van will transport you from the hotel to the Milan airport for your flights home.

Tour FAQs
What’s Included and Excluded from the Price?
I tried to make the price as inclusive as possible so there weren’t too many additional costs. The cooking classes are optional as not everyone may be interested. Likewise, people have different eating habits and preferences so lunches and dinners are also not included.
For a full list of what’s included and excluded in the price, please see the below information.
Included:
- Use of an accessible vehicle for all transportation
- Airport transfers
- Accessible hotel room in 3* or greater hotel
- Breakfast
- All tours and activities per itinerary unless otherwise stated
- Tax
Exclusions:
- Airfare
- City Tax (paid to the hotel directly on arrival)
- Travel Insurance
- Optional cooking classes
- Lunches/Dinners
- Personal expenses (souvenirs, laundry, etc.).
Do I Need Travel Insurance?
Travel insurance is not required but HIGHLY recommended as the deposit and trip costs are not refundable. Additionally, should you encounter any trip delays or medical issues, travel insurance will help to cover these costs.
For those in the United States, you can compare policies and prices using Insure My Trip. Just make sure you look for a policy that has pre-existing condition coverage.
Why Does This Tour Cost So Much?
I always try to keep costs down on any tour I organize to allow more people the ability to participate. Admittedly, I was hoping that this trip would be more affordable.
2025 happens to be Jubilee Year for the Catholic Church which means Italy is expecting a higher number of visitors than in other years. When demand increases, so does price.
Additionally, many of the activities on this itinerary are not tours that Rome and Italy accessible travel company normally offers. Due to the uniqueness of this trip, there is a slightly higher cost.
Furthermore, since our group is limited to 8 people (as that is what the company can accommodate) it limits how many can share in the cost of the tours.
👉A similar-length tour organized by my competitor for Rome and Florence in 2025 is actually almost $1,000 more. I do really strive to make these tours as affordable as possible.
Who Can Join this Tour?
Everyone is welcome on this trip. Whether you have limited mobility, are a slow walker, wheelchair user, or able-bodied. I try to create tours and itineraries that everyone can enjoy.
So, if you want to travel with family and friends, everyone is welcome. Additionally, there are no age restrictions for this trip. If you are traveling with kids, you know them best and can determine whether they would enjoy this itinerary.
What Makes this Tour Accessible?
This tour is made accessible through the use of an adapted van that allows wheelchair users to remain in their chairs. Additionally, accessible hotel rooms with roll-in showers are also available.
Finally, the company conducting this tour (Rome and Italy) specializes in accessible travel so they know where the accessible bathrooms are and the best routes and pathways during our tours.
Potential Challenges to Accessibility
Like in most of Europe, Italy has cobblestones. While Milan, should have mostly smooth surfaces, Verona may have more uneven cobblestones.
Likewise, the Dolomites will have a combination of compacted dirt surfaces with paved areas. The ground will likely be uneven at times. If you are a manual wheelchair user, a free-wheel attachment will likely be helpful.
Will Accessible Bathrooms Be Available During the Day?
The company conducting the tour specializes in accessible travel in Italy. This means they know the most accessible places for bathrooms and have worked them into our tour.
Can You Assist Me with Airfare?
I am not a travel agent so I cannot book airfare for you. However, if you need assistance with finding flights or suggestions on which airlines to use, I’d be happy to help.
Flights for this trip are already available and will range in price depending on where you will be flying from. Once you book, please provide me with your flight details so I can ensure airport transfers.
Why Should I Travel with World on Wheels?
I was born with a slowly progressive disability that affects my strength, balance, endurance, and breathing. Despite the physical challenges of my disability, I have successfully traveled to 21 countries and 4 continents so far.
Using my experience, I will help guide you through this process and offer support. When you decide to join one of the accessible small group tours I organize, I’m available to answer any questions you have, help search for flights, address any concerns you may have, and more.
Furthermore, I offer chances to connect with the other group members prior to the trip through a private Facebook group and Zoom calls. I want you to feel prepared and more confident for the trip.
My goal is to help you travel to your dream destinations.
As an added bonus, a small group tour allows you to connect with fellow travelers who understand what it’s like living with a disability. It’s a wonderful supportive environment where you’re likely to make new friends.

I’m a Solo Traveler, Can You Help Me Find a Roommate?
If you are traveling solo and would like to avoid the single supplement fee, I will do my best to help you find a roommate. However, I am unable to guarantee that this endeavor will be successful.
Can I Add on Extra Nights Pre or Post Tour?
It may be possible to add on additional nights (at an extra cost) if you’d like time to explore Venice or elsewhere in Italy. However, as I mentioned before, Italy will be expecting more visitors than usual and hotels are filling up quickly.
If you’d like to find out if it’s possible to add on nights to the tour, please contact Rome and Italy Travel directly to check availability and prices.
