9 Best Wheelchair Accessible Hotels in London

While these hotels are still in London, they are a little further away from the main attractions. However, I made sure that there was easy access to either a tube station or bus stop for easy exploring.

1. Point A Hotel London Shoreditch

The Point A Hotel provides a unique blend of budget-friendly and contemporary style. The emphasis on affordability without compromising on quality makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious visitors looking to explore London, Shoreditch, and beyond.

Accessible rooms come in two options (with or without a window) so be mindful of what you choose during booking. One of the nice features is that the rooms have hardwood floors making it easier to maneuver in your chair. However, the bed may only be accessible by wheelchair on one side.

The accessible bathroom has grab bars, a roll-in shower with a fold-down seat, an emergency pull cord, and a roll-under sink. Although these are pretty standard accessibility features, I will say that the fold-down seat is a little awkward as it sticks out from the wall in a weird way offering no back or side support.

Other amenities included in your room include free Wi-Fi, breakfast, and plenty of outlets to power up your devices. The hotel is also located near accessible public transport options for easy access to the popular attractions in London.

2. Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel & SPA

Located in the vibrant Chelsea neighborhood, this hotel offers a perfect blend of sophistication and comfort. The well-appointed rooms, adorned with modern amenities and stylish decor, create a haven of relaxation for guests. However, what sets this hotel apart is its spa facilities, allowing visitors to unwind and recharge amidst the bustling city.

The spa offers amenities such as a steam room, sauna, swimming pool, and various beauty and therapy treatments.

The accessible rooms are spacious and offer grab bars in the bathroom, a roll-in shower with a fold-down seat, and a roll-under sink. Free Wi-Fi is also available.

Tower Bridge Area

Staying in this vicinity puts you close to some of London’s most famous landmarks, such as the Shard, HMS Belfast, and Borough Market, making it an ideal location for sightseeing. Additionally, the neighborhood boasts a lively and diverse culinary scene, with numerous restaurants and pubs serving both traditional British fare and international cuisine.

With convenient access to public transportation, including the London Bridge station, staying near Tower Bridge provides not only a picturesque setting but also easy connectivity to explore the entire city.

3. DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London -Tower of London

One of the unique features of this hotel is the warm DoubleTree signature welcome, which includes a delicious chocolate chip cookie upon arrival, setting the tone for a delightful stay. The hotel also offers on-site dining options offering diverse culinary experiences. For a truly unique experience head to the Skylounge bar, for stunning views of London.

Rooms are comfortable and practical with a touch of modern design making for a great base during your London trip. Accessible rooms have enough space to navigate in your wheelchair and include amenities such as a roll-in shower with a seat, grab bars, a roll-under sink, and an emergency pull cord.

However, as you can see in the picture above, Hilton uses platform beds which don’t work with patient lifts or hoists.

Bathrooms have a roll-in shower with a seat, grab rails, and a roll-under sink. Free Wi-Fi, mineral water, and tea/coffee-making facilities are included in your room rate. Accessible London Hotels with Profiling Bed

9. Able Stay London

While not in the central part of the city, Able Stay is a 3-bedroom home vs a hotel. Additionally, they offer features you won’t find in a traditional accessible room and include a hoist, profiling bed, lift chair, shower chairs (one with a full back on it), and a bath bed. London FAQs

Is London Wheelchair Friendly?

If you are a wheelchair user or someone with limited mobility you may be wondering how wheelchair friendly the city is and whether London is worth visiting with your physical challenges. I’m happy to report that London is one of the best cities in Europe for people with mobility problems.

While it isn’t perfect for everyone (no place is), it does offer options for accessible transportation, hotels, and there are plenty of wheelchair accessible things to do in London. In fact, I have been to London on several occasions and each time have enjoyed my time there.

Do Premier Inns Have Disabled Rooms?

Many Premier Inns do have disabled rooms available. In fact, this UK hotel chain can be an affordable option for your stay in London.

As with any hotel though, make sure to contact the hotel with your specific needs to ensure their rooms will work for you. For many, bed height is a specific concern that can make the room a success or challenge.

How Do You Get Around London in a Wheelchair?

Black Cabs

All of the black cabs in London are wheelchair accessible with a fold-out ramp. While the costs can add up, this is an excellent option for taking a tour (I used Landmark Taxi Tours) or getting to your hotel from the airport.

Hop On Hop Off Bus

A cheaper alternative is to take the hop on hop off bus tour in London. There are several routes available that take you close to the major attractions and landmarks in the city. Depending on the option you choose, a free walking tour can be included to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace.

Public Transport

The most affordable and accessible option for getting around London is the public transport system which includes buses and the tube. Buses in London have a wheelchair-accessible entrance that allows you to stay in your chair but once onboard there are no tie-downs to secure your chair.

The tube has many stations that are accessible via lifts or elevators, however, it’s important to make sure these are in working order before your journey. There may also be other barriers that vary by station including gaps.

➡️ Travel Tip: Use this app to enter your needs and help plan your route as well as check for any updates on the operation of lifts, and availability of accessible bathrooms.

How Long Should I Spend in London?

4 days in London will allow you to see the highlights of the city. Although if you want to add in some day trips from the city, I suggest at least 5 days in London.

However, whenever I seem to visit the city it’s usually for a quick break before taking a cruise, so I seem to spend 2 days in London at a time. This always leaves me wanting more, and luckily, I end up going back even if it’s only for a quick visit before catching a Norwegian Fjords cruise or to some other European cruise destination.

When Should I Visit London?

London is a beautiful city that can be enjoyed year-round. Although, there are some things you may want to consider. For example, the best time to visit London when traveling on a budget is in the winter when you can get cheap flights.

On the other hand, the worst time to visit London if you want to avoid the crowds is the summertime. It really depends on when you are available to travel, what your budget is, and what you want to experience.

What Should I Pack for My Trip to London?

London weather can vary greatly so it’s best to pack layers, so you are comfortable no matter what Mother Nature throws your way. Along with comfortable clothes, here are some other must-haves for your London packing list.
