Accessible Travel Resources for Your Next Trip
As a lover of travel whose goal is to make planning and going on wheelchair-accessible vacations easier, I wanted to share some of my favorite accessible travel resources. These are all tools that I use myself, and I would never recommend a product, company, or service that I don’t believe in.

Wheelchair Accessible Group Tours
I’m organizing two incredible wheelchair-accessible small group tours in 2024. You can choose to join me on either of the two bucket list destinations below… a South African safari or Peru and Machu Pichu!
Stay tuned for more information on future small group tours and sign up for my newsletter so you’ll be the first to know when these tours launch! As a thank you for signing up, you can choose which free travel resource you’d like. Just click one of the images below to sign up.
I also have a whole page dedicated to companies (that I have personally used) that provide accessible tours of various destinations. You can find them by clicking here.
Travel Insurance
Whenever I travel, I always make sure to purchase travel insurance which not only covers the cost of my trip but also provides medical coverage in the event of an emergency. A small investment upfront can literally save you thousands later.
Additionally, I purchase travel insurance when I first book my trip so I can ensure that it covers pre-existing conditions. Just make sure your policy has a pre-existing condition waiver (not all do).
Insure My Trip
I love this insurance aggregator because it allows me to compare prices and policies to make sure I get the right coverage at the best price. I can use their filter feature to make sure my policy covers pre-existing conditions and any other important features.

Booking Flights
Skyscanner
I love using Skyscanner to book flights because the search engine offers so many options. If you know your destination and travel dates, great, you can do a traditional search for flights. If you are flexible in your dates or where you want to go, you can use Skyscanner to find the best deals to a variety of travel destinations.

Wheelchair Accessible Hotel Booking Resources
Booking.com
Booking.com offers the ability to search for hotels and narrow down your choices based on your accessibility needs, price and other amenities. They offer a loyalty program to further save money and are compatible with the Rakuten Cash Back App or browser extension. Furthermore, you can book specific accessible rooms, according to hotel policies.

Expedia
Expedia is a multi-purpose site that allows you to book hotels, airfare, cruises and more. For hotels, they have the option to book designated accessible rooms (if the hotel offers that option) and makes booking your next trip a breeze. They also have a rewards program and are compatible with Rakuten.

Accessible Resources: Campgrounds
Campspot
Don’t you hate trying to find campgrounds near your travel destination? Campspot, allows you to search for nearby campgrounds and filter the results by the amenities you need and want (i.e. electric hook ups, water etc). You can also filter by price. The only downside is this website doesn’t include state parks.

Travel Hacking
Travel hacking is when you use credit card points and airline miles to save money on travel. These savings can be applied to hotels, airfare, rental cars and more. The KEY is to not spend more than you normally would and to make sure you can pay off your credit card bill each month.
Some credit cards are better for this strategy than others and my favorites are listed below. For more information on travel hacking and the ins and outs of using this strategy, check out the free course from 10x Travel.
Chase Sapphire Preferred
There are two main Chase cards that most travelers use, the Sapphire Preferred and the Sapphire Reserve. The preferred card comes with a lower annual fee, a yearly $50 hotel credit and more benefits such as a sign-up bonus. Having one of these cards is also important so you can transfer your points to partners (such as hotels and airlines) and redeem them for free travel.
Having the preferred or reserve card also allows you to transfer your Chase points from other cards to this account so that all your rewards points are in one place. You can earn 5x on travel purchased through Chase, 2x on travel, 3x on dining and 3x on streaming services. There is also no foreign transaction fee with this card.

Chase Freedom Flex
The Chase Freedom Flex card has no annual fee and is technically a cash back card, but you can transfer your points to your Chase Sapphire Preferred card to make your points worth more and go further in redemption. This card also allows you to earn additional points for rotating quarterly bonus categories (such as gas and groceries).
This is a great everyday card and allows you to earn 5% on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards, 3% on dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery services, 3% on drugstore purchases, and 1% on all other purchases.

Capital One Venture X
Capital One Venture X has a $395 annual fee, but essentially pays for itself with all the benefits the card comes with. You will get $100 credit toward TSA precheck or Global Entry passes, a yearly $300 credit for travel, access to airport lounges and more with this card.
You will also earn 10x on hotels and rental cars booked through Captial One, 5x on hotels booked through Capital One, and 2x on all other purchases. There is also a generous sign-up bonus for new card members.

Accessible Cruising Resources
If you are planning on cruising and need to rent equipment such as oxygen concentrators, commode chairs, hospital beds or mobility devices, these two companies are the most widely recommended by cruise lines. I have used Special Needs at Sea and had a very good experience.
Special Needs at Sea
This company offers a little bit of everything from oxygen concentrators, mobility devices, bathroom aids and more. They can have your equipment delivered to your stateroom and waiting for you when you board the ship.
Scootaround
This company primarily rents mobility devices such as scooters and wheelchairs.
Travel Apps
Accessaloo
This is a great app as it allows you to find wheelchair-accessible restrooms in a wide variety of cities and countries across the globe. It does require the use of either Wi-Fi or cell data for use of the app.

Gypsy App
The Gypsy App is meant for road trips with a focus on US national parks. It’s like having your own private tour guide right in your vehicle. It will give you tips and tricks for each place and does not rely on Wi-Fi or cell data to use. The app is free to download, and you purchase the tours you want (which are reasonably priced). There are even combination tours available for sites and attractions that are near each other.
